LIFE AT SLUMS IN INDIA: According
to the reports, about 1.2 billion people
are surviving in slums all because of the steps that are not taken properly and
as a result, the number of slums are increasing
in India. Life at slums is very
difficult as people living there have poor facilities and many other issues
that they have to face on daily basis. This problem does not occur only in
Delhi but it is present all overIndia. Slums are basically the overcrowded and
a closely packed area where many people live and survive because they do not
have any other shelter and adequate facilities that they should be provided
with. #LifeAtSlumsInIndia
PROBLEMS
People
who have to live in slums face many problems and challenges. These people are
basically migrant workers, laborers and many other who are not able to afford
houses in their cities.
Ø Lack of proper
sanitation-
In slums, there is a problem of
sanitation as they do not get proper sanitation. The prevention of human
contact with waste matter is also a part of sanitation like washing hands with
soap but the lack of sanitation do not allow them to do such things. Even the
washrooms there, don’t have proper sewage system.
Ø Water deficiency-
Water deficiency is the main
concern although water is supplied to them per day but that is not enough and
who says that the water is clean or fresh. They have to rely on this source
only because there are not many options and many do not get water also because when the water
comes in their slums people fight for it as everybody wants it and in this
fight many people do not get it and then they have to survive without it. But
it is also important that they get the fresh water and the regular supply of
water through pipes.
Ø Less income-
A person living in slums only gets
the minimal income which is not sufficient for the family and for fulfilling their
needs. For this income, they have to engage in small works like working at
someone’s home, rag picking, laborer, peon and many other works either because
of their lack of education or because no work is given to them other than these
works.
Ø Overcrowded areas and
homes-
Slums are usually overcrowded and homes
are overcrowded as well, as more than 8 people lives in the small house in
which only 4 to 5 people can adjust but they do not have any option other than
that. Also these houses are made of some waste materials
like corrugated sheets which cause them problem during rainy season or monsoon.
LIFE AT SLUMS IN INDIA:
REASONS
Reasons
for living in slums, most importantly, is that they do not have any better
housing options and also they can’t afford it like in Mumbai many people go
there to become actors or a successful person but many of them do not have
enough money so they have to live in slums. Poverty and unemployment is yet
another reason for people to live in slums.
Thus,
life at slums is challenging. Many cities like Delhi, Maharashtra, Kolkata,
Chennai, Jaipur, Guwahati and many other cities have slums. It is basically the
ugly face of India that on the one hand, the country is developing but on the
other hand, it is not developing in all the terms which automatically creates
hindrances in making India the developed country.
