 Government and media houses are specifying these days to build your immunity to get an upper hand towards Corona Virus pandemic. For doing so, when you would look up the internet you will find hundreds of foods being recommended for, and many a times you will see costly foods like dry fruits, olive oil, oysters, mushroom etc. And things like ‘broccoli’ and ‘light white tuna’ are simply bouncers or unaffordable for most of us. So keeping in mind the Indian common man and it’s instability of finance during the current scenario, this article will go through the cheap and on-hand resources you can use to strengthen your shield of immune system. The items detailed below are being recommended as per the market of mid-June, 2020.

 

1. WHOLE WHEAT BREAD

Seems quite fancy to read, but it is nothing but the traditional Indian Roti made of whole wheat(Gehoon). Vitamin B1, B2, B9 present in it helps in metabolism and new cell formation. The fibres present in it support in maintaining ‘good bacteria’ in your digestive system which helps in strengthening and maintaining a fit immune system.

 

2. TURMERIC(Haldi)

A regular household item available in every Indian kitchen. It is rich in antioxidants, helping your cells to resist any infection.

3. SPINACH(Paalak)

The famous super-food of Popeye contains Vitamin A ,B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, C, K, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron etc. No wonder why

Popeye was so strong.

4. POULTRY EGG(Andaa)

Available at an average price of Rs. 6/piece. Rich in Vitamin B12, D etc, which helps in muscle and bone development with an aid to metabolic regulation. One egg per day would suffice.

5. CURD(Dahi)

A fermented version of milk, highly rich in calcium, also contains Vitamin C, D, digestion friendly bacteria and much more, which in turn will help solidifying the bones and immune wall. With one pouch of ‘Amul Taaza’ worth Rs. 22, you can make one medium bowl of curd, hence consumption of thrice a week is recommended.

6. GARLIC(Lahsun)

Another super-food in the list which is easily found in an Indian kitchen. ‘Hot’ in nature and helpful to prevent and cure cold. Enriched with Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 along with other minerals like Potassium, Sulphur, Sodium etc. Due to it’s anti flu and anti-allergic properties, it would be very beneficial in current environment.

7. GINGER(Adrak)

Another handy kitchen item cum super-food. Stuffed with Vitamin B2, B3, B6, C, plus Potassium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Zinc etc. It also has dietary fibres, hence is also useful for smooth digestion process. It’s already famous for curing cold and flu like conditions.

8. BASIL(Tulsi)

Commonly found in almost all houses of the country, Tulsi is a boon to your physiology if you consume 1-2 leaves of it everyday. It will not only help you in developing a good immune system, but will also aid the liver.

(Caution: Don’t chew it, swallow it directly. Due to presence of small amount of mercury, it can harm your teeth)

9. TOMATO(Tamaatar)

Being rich in Vitamin C, it will help you in getting more energetic and immune. It also holds Potassium, Vitamin B9, K, antioxidants etc.

Now, last but not the least is;

10. WATER(Paani)

Being the most majorly existing compound in our body, consumption of it in adequate quantity is more than necessary. Water is required for all parts of your body, including bones. So in order to keep your immunological functions strong, you need an adequate amount of it in your diet without a doubt. It is recommended to drink 2 litres of water everyday, in small portions of 200-400 ML(millilitres) at a time.

You can also consume fruits like Banana and Papaya, which are comparatively cheap than others but extremely nutritious, aiding to your biology of immune system.

Adding to all these, exercise would also be beneficial. If you can’t or don’t want to do any aerobics or Asana, you can simply take a small walk around your locality twice a day(with mask).
